Pride: A Rainbow of Repertoire

  • Richard and Nancy Donahue Academic Arts Center 240 Central Street Lowell, MA, 01852 United States (map)

Celebrate Pride Month and the contributions of LGBTQ artists with our annual Pride concert! This year, our program will include classical offerings and collaborations with drag artists Travis Tí, Harley Queen, and Hawkeye Fierce!

Meet our guest artists

Harley Queen (she/her) is the self proclaimed “Worcester’s Favorite Drag Queen,” and an award winning showrunner for Harley’s Funhouse where she opens the stage for anyone from beginner to veteran performers.

Hawkeye Fierce (he/him) is the Motorcycle King of Boston who has been riding high as a drag king for just over a year! Hawkeye is a storyteller, and loves giving his audience a message in his acts, be it wearing toxic masculinity like a skin suit, or encouraging his audience to be empowered. You can find him next at Kierra’s Cabaret: Pride Edition at Idle Hands Craft Brewery in Malden June 28th, and you will also find him competing in the Diva Cup Competition at THRUST Fest, July 13 at the Crystal Ballroom in Somerville. Follow him @hawkeyefiercedrag on instagram for more show updates and videos.

Travis Tí is the Bugs Bunny of New England drag. As one of Massachusetts’s longest actively performing drag kings, this multi-title holding performer has always used his platform to fight for trans equality, personally raising over $2000 for QTBIPOC transgender charities in the last two years alone.

So what do you do during the drag portion that's different from the classical portion? We're here to help! Here are some tips on drag show etiquette:

1) Cheering: Normally during our concerts, we ask that you hold all applause until after a piece has finished. This is still true for the instrument-only pieces. However, when drag performers are onstage, feel free to whoop and clap to your heart's content! This behavior shows our drag performers that you like what they're doing!

2) Tipping: Tipping is a longstanding drag tradition. Typically, audience members will pass $1 bills (or higher denominations, if they especially love someone's performance) to drag performers as they pass by. Again, this shows the performers that you like what they're doing!

And that's it! We can't wait for you to see what we've been working on
