An evening of exploring the genesis, importance, and elements that make Arnold Schönberg’s “Pierrot Lunaire” a lasting work. Ancient musical forms turned atonal, the distortion of the quintessential characters from the commedia dell’arte, and the use of extended harmonies and techniques, make this work a scary gaze into the darkness of the mind - and remains as scary today as it was back in 1912!
Soprano Rose Hegele will be our guest lecturer and vocalist. Ms. Hegele has been lauded for her ease with extended vocal techniques, creating “siren-like sounds that explore extremes of the vocal range” (The Boston Music Intelligencer). Specializing in contemporary opera, chamber music, and improvisation, Ms. Hegele sings to create a space to heal souls and bodies, and to allow humans to embrace all of their complexity and humanity.
